PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the net in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck two times late to take a shock advantage. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the final moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 years.
